LETTERS From Louis Lawrence, Niton:
I HAVE seen some fancy painted vans and trucks, men in high-visibility vests and hardhats, and I even saw a road crew tarting up our only stretch of dual carriageway, which made me suspect a Royal visit, but as for anywhere else ?
Could the CP start a list of "Potholed Roads of Shame"where readers can list the places which are in dire need of attention.
My own favourites are Niton Road, from Rookley Green to the pub (and the road branching from there towards Merstone); the entire length approaching and through Wroxall; Park Road from the park to Flowersbrook at Ventnor and all through Whitwell.
There is also the perennial topsy-turvy stretch of Undercliff Drive that has foiled generations of county road managers.
If it wasn’t for the cutbacks perhaps we might ask the army to build a Bailey bridge over that lot.
If NASA ever needs a test track for their Mars rover vehicles, the Island is a good place to start.
The question is, are we going to see some action before winter freezes beget another crop of potholes added to the ones we already have?
They’ve got the £35 million contract so what about a few buckets of asphalt to get us started?
Editor’s footnote: Last week, Island Roads published a comprehensive list of roads to be rebuilt in coming weeks.
