Sub Jon Ions sparked a great last quarter for Tabard on Saturday.

Coming on in the second half, Tabard's number eight scored two fine individual tries to finish off Old Colfeians.

Colfeians elected to play with the strong wind and as so often happens, they failed to use it effectively, the kick off going straight into touch to give Tabard an early scrum and immediate domination.

Tabard kept the pressure on and were rewarded with a third minute penalty, kicked by scrum half Michael Skinner, when Colfeians failed to roll away after the tackle.

Tabard continued to dominate and, although wing Brendan Higgins and centre Louis Botha both had good runs, it was a forward effort which brought the first try.

Spearheaded by hooker Mark Sharp and flanker Jag Johal, the forwards drove for the line from 18 metres out and were rewarded with a try for flanker Dallas Adams, which Skinner converted.

A long crossfield kick should have brought Colfeians a respite, but instead it was brilliantly fielded by Higgins, who set up the counter and passed to full back James Drew.

Drew accelerated round the cover defence to touch down in the corner and bring up the half time score of 15 points to nil in Tabard's favour.

In the second half Tabard seemed to struggle with the wind, and Colfeians were rewarded with two early penalties kicked by stand off Chapman.

Colfeians then attacked incessantly, and only some good defensive work, especially by big number eight Ron Matthews, kept a determined Colfeians out.

The inability to score eventually broke Colfeian's spirit, and the stage was set for Ions to take charge. Just after he came on the pitch Colfeians were caught running out of defence, Tabard gained a scrum and Ions picked up at the base for the first of his tries, which Skinner converted.

Tabard were now in the ascendancy, and great tactical kicking by Drew forced Colfeians more and more onto the back foot.

Tabard's mastery was completed when, towards the end of the game, Ions picked up from the base of the scrum again and scored his second try, which Skinner converted.
