Surviving the great storm

Peter Browning with the fallen tree.

LETTERS From Peter Browning, Shanklin:

TWENTY five years ago seems such a long time.

My bungalow at Wootton Bridge was hit by an 80ft macrcarpa tree at 3.30am at the height of the storm. I actually saw the tree fall and prior to that the branches were being torn off and were flying through the air.

The noise of the wind was like a jet engine roar.

It seemed like the end of the world!
