LETTERS From Ross Farrer, ringmaster, Jay Miller’s Circus:
MAY I thank Alison and the directors of Newport FC for helping us recently when we arrived on the Island.
Due to adverse weather, the grass crop at Wootton was delayed in its harvest.
Our advertising starts in February each year and therefore our opening dates are set from then. Information and ticket sales commence from mid-June, so from this point we are committed.
With the weather and the complete chaos that ensued with the IW Festival, one of your councillors publicly stated, "All events like this must have a contingency plan in future". The last-minute move to the football club was our contingency so our customers were not let down.
Unfortunately there seem to be rumours that we were not welcomed at the football club and that we just arrived and set up. I can assure that officials knew we were coming.
We are now at our normal field and we are looking forward to entertaining the Island residents once more.
