The morning started well for Brampton at the Gillingham Championships with the mixed relay team clinching gold and the success continued when seven Brampton swimmers qualified for the final round held at Canterbury, where pupils continued their winning streak.

Matthew Shead and Adele Howard won the breastroke and backstroke events while Matthew, Joe Dimsdale, Robert Shead and Joe Thorogood clinched gold in the medley relay and James Wiley, Robert, Matthew and Joe wrapped up the freestyle relay race.

The relay team continued its fabulous form when swimming for Kent the following week. The boys' medley relay team again came first and soon afterwards the freestyle relay team came second in their race.

Both teams qualify for the National Swimming Championships held later this month.

Headteacher Rob Richardson said: "We are absolutely delighted with the children's exceptional performance and wish the team who have qualified for the National Championship in Sheffield every possible success.

l ERITH Swimming Club took a total of 15 swimmers to the Kent County Swimming Championships and returned home with a number of medals.

Pride of place goes to Matthew Shead who won both the 11 years 100m and 50m breastroke events as well as the 200m individual medley.

Ryan Carver, who has been selected to swim for the Kent County team, qualified for eight individual events and brought home a gold in the 50m butterfly as well as two silver and one bronze medal.

Credit should also go to Adele Howard, Jade Barclay and Chloe Ross who all achieved personal best times.

The club also had a successful day at the Kent Relay Championships, in which it entered 10 teams.

Simon Facey, Matthew Shead, Stuart Russell and Michael Redpath won silver in the medley relay.
