LETTERS TO THE EDITOR From J. Keith Hook, deputy chair, political, IW Conservative Association, Ryde:
WITH your pages being graced for two weeks running with speculation concerning the future of the Island Parliamentary representative, Andrew Turner, I feel it would be useful to outline the procedure and correct the record.
Andrew will write to the chairman of the association, as he has already done, stating he wishes to stand again as the Island representative to Parliament at the election in 2015. This letter will start the procedure the Island has used in previous selection processes.
In due course, it will be up to the Island Conservative membership to decide if Andrew wins and is adopted as the Conservative candidate in that election.
There is no plan to unilaterally deselect Andrew Turner as the Conservative candidate by any group that has made itself known to the officers of the association.
If any of your readers are aware of a plan or if they have views they would like to share with me or the officers of the association, then please write to me, c/o IW Conservative Association, 58 The Mall, Newport, IW.
I believe this must be the way forward. I am of the opinion that in the future and in the light of more involvement in the selection process by the electorate, the procedure outlined above should be looked at and brought into line with modern expectations
