LETTERSFrom Ray Harrington-Vail, Footprint Trust Ltd, Newport:
WE understand that ThWART have said that wind turbines could burn down Parkhurst Forest (CP, 18-05-12).
In the words of Oliver Rackham, world expert on trees and history of woodlands: "...(living) deciduous trees burn like wet asbestos..."
Forest fires only occur in coniferous forests not in native English forests.
The turbines are too far from coniferous trees to start a fire.
It is people who start forest fires by discarding cigarettes, not wind turbines. I think they have damaged their case by using alarmist and frightening scare stories.
