There are no guarantees Radlett Police Station will not see further reductions in its opening hours, Aldenham Parish Council was told last week.
Councillor Alan Horsford said the Inspector in charge of Hertsmere sector said he could not promise the Watling Street station would not see a further cut in opening hours.
The hours are currently Monday to Friday, 10am to 12noon and 4pm to 6pm.
Mr Horsford said: "He said direct response units had been very effective, with 80 per cent of 999 calls being responded to within the specified time.
"But I think it's worth recording our concern."
Councillor Peter Stanley said: "It's depressing, isn't it? We will soon be lucky to see a police presence anywhere on the street.
"It's not proactive, it's reactive. Most people would like to see police on the street, or on a bike. In Watford they are thicker on the ground than they are here."
