LETTERSFrom Margaret Honeybourne, Ryde:
FURTHER to your stories about the lightning strikes on April 12, I live in Stroudwood Road and have fields that back onto Newnham Road, Binstead.
I had two poles struck by lightning. One came down with a loud bang and a cloud of smoke. Another pole was split. The electricity board put these up the next day and supplied me with a large generator. When they connected up on the Friday afternoon, there was a bang and it was found that a third pole with the transformer on it had to have the transformer replaced. The mains electricity was off for about 28 hours. The electricity board men were great.
Also my phone line was struck. My wireless router/modem was blown out and the telephone point.
It is amazing how much I missed the use of the computer, especially e-mails, as I use it a lot.
