West Wight leads way in tourism promotion plans

Friday, January 6, 2012

LETTERSFrom David D. Ballard, chair, West Wight Marketing Group:

We look forward to learning more about the council’s proposed destination management organisation (CP, 23-12-11).

Here in our quiet corner of the Island, small local tourism businesses are busy working with parish councils and other supporters to promote rural holidays in West Wight.

We have a unique landscape with miles and miles of undeveloped coastline and unspoilt countryside.

It’s a struggle to get the financial support we need but thanks to a number of generous anonymous donations, and loads of free professional expertise from key members, there will be a new website and supporting printed material in 2012.

Together with other West Wight tourism businesses and friends across the Island we are determined to pull in the visitors despite the difficult economic climate but we know that it is largely up to us to demonstrate initiative, take the lead and make these partnerships work.
