What’s wrong with men on floats?

LETTERS From Mrs Judith Day, Ryde:

I CANNOT believe how petty those judges were to exclude Ryde Queens float from the Queens’ tableaux class (CP, 24-08-12) .

Their theme was depicting the diamond jubilee for goodness sake and the yeoman of the guards were very much a part of these celebrations.

I have been entering floats in carnivals for over 40 years and I was secretary of Ryde for six years in the late Seventies and early Eighties,

I represented Ryde at the All-Island Federation Meetings until I decided to resign in the late Eighties and I have never ever heard anyone say that men are not permitted to be on the float.

I can only assume that this unwritten rule is new this year, why? What is the problem with men?

If a man’s role adds to the beauty of the chosen theme, why not, it should be judged on the overall tableaux.

I am sad for the two men in question. But don’t you worry, yeomen, you look amazing and a definite asset to the float.
