LETTERS
From Simon Wratten, Fishbourne:
I wrote to the CP at the beginning of December to ask that Andrew Turner resign from the Conservative party; a move that would show the government he is serious about the desperate financial plight of his constituency.
Not only has Mr Turner failed to cross the floor of the Commons, but he and the Tory government continue to just offer words, words and more words as the Island’s situation continues to worsen.
When taken to task by Labour’s Geoff Lumley (CP, 17-02-17), Andrew Turner’s reply was that he had, "secured agreement" from both David Cameron and Philip Hammond that "they recognise the Island has unique funding challenges".
Yes, we know…and?
Any fool can "recognise" the problem, but it isn’t recognition that we need, it’s action; or more to the point, some hard cash.
Mr Turner offered yet more words by adding that he is, "supporting the work of the IW Council to ensure a robust case is made".
Is this some kind of joke? This council has only been in place for five minutes, and will be gone in May, so how on earth can he be working with them, and what could he possibly expect them to achieve anyway?
He tells us, "there will be a further announcement soon". Yet more words! If I had any hair left, I would be pulling it out.
Meanwhile, the Lib Dems are proposing a new English Isles policy, which would provide money rather than hot air.
The clock towards the 2020 General Election is ticking, Mr Turner.
If you don’t do something to help the IW very soon, you’ll be gone.
