ANGLING REPORT BY RAY ROBSON

This week's round of the Surrey Winter league saw England star Will Raison set a new league individual match record.

The match was fished at Gold Valley which is owned by Will's dad John and over the last few years Will has become almost unbeatable on his home water. Drawn at peg 99 on Syndicate Lake, Will decided to attack with 16 metre pole and maggot up in the water and his tactics certainly paid dividends as he left the other 119 anglers trailing, putting a fantastic 126lb 6oz on the scales. Will's contribution ensured his team, Daiwa Dorking, went on to record a comfortable victory with 99 points to leave them well clear at the top of the league on 269 points ahead of Fox Banstead on 219½ points and Molesey with 203 points. It will take a major upset for any team to overhaul the Dorking maestros.

All rivers in our area have been out of sorts since the deluge of flood water but just before it hit I had a superb day at the Old Mill at Aldermaston on the River Kennet.

Fishing the famous "lawn" swim, I had two barbel at 7lb and 5lb before moving to the first swim below the road bridge, where my 2 swan shot link legered lobworm brought me a beautiful new personal best chub at 6lb.
