A CHIEF inspector will be proving she is not just any ol' Sheila when she goes on a three-month exchange programme Down Under to find out more about Aussie policing.
Chief Inspector Jane Newall is the first north Kent police officer to take part in the county exchange programme, which will see her carrying out her duties just south of Adelaide, South Australia, from next month.
She aims to learn how the South Australian police force deals with anti-social behaviour and alcohol-related crime and bring ideas home to implement in north Kent.
She said: "This isn't going to be a holiday. This is going to be very full-on and extremely busy. I won't be watching others working but actually doing my policing job while trying to get to grips with the area."
Chief Insp Newall was selected to take part in the annual exchange from entries from across the Kent police force.
And, despite the similarity of the South Australia police being intelligence led, like Kent, she is preparing herself for having to police a larger area, which will include Kangaroo Island and vast spaces between small towns.
Australian Chief Inspector Tony Harrison will be coming to north Kent to undertake Chief Insp Newall's role and gain an insight into policing methods in the area.
