THE Cottonmill Lane swimming pool photograph published a few weeks ago prompted a response from Mr Denis Ansell, who recognised one of the judges.
He said: "The stocky one first on the right is Mr J Owen, headmaster of Bernard's Heath Infant School in Sandridge Road."
Mr Ansell remembers his old headmaster well.
"He lived in the school-house alongside the building is now a social club called the Valmar Club.
"He was Welsh, and quite a strong disciplinarian.
"He had four sons and I think three of them served in the Second World War.
"His wife was also Welsh.
"One of the sons lived in Gustard Wood, and died about two years ago."
