SEVEN groups in Gwent have received cash boosts in the latest Awards for All Wales pay out.

More than £16,520 was given to organisations in Torfaen, Newport and Monmouthshire.

Caerleon Retired Persons Welfare was given £3,159 while the Llanthony and district garden club was awarded £871.

But it was Torfaen that got the lion's share with 1st Fairwater Guides in Cwmbran getting the top award of £5,000.

Crow Valley Wood Turners Club gets £3,265; Pontnewydd History Society £2,725 and Cwmbran Woodcarving and Turning Club £1,500.

Supported by the Big Lottery Fund and the Heritage Lottery Fund, Awards for All Wales aims to revitalise communities and bring people of all ages and abilities together.

It is one of the quickest ways to secure lottery money and has injected grants of between £500 and £5,000 into a range of projects since 1994.
