THE 2010 IW Motor Show was once again well supported.

Thousands of car enthusiasts flocked to the IW Steam Railway at Havenstreet to see more than 140 new cars, light commercials, scooters and motorbikes.

Most of the Island’s leading motor dealers were there, with more than 20 different marques represented and the show was once again sponsored by the County Press.

Dave Perkis, of Staddlestones Nissan, who is chairman of the organising committee, said: "The show seems to have gone very well — there were lots of people and most of the dealers I have spoken to said they had plenty of interest, so I am sure there will be vehicle sales as a result.

"We were once again very lucky with the weather and the bungee proved a particularly popular attraction for many visitors too."

Ray Winter, of Island Skoda dealers F. H. Winter and Sons, said: "Once again the show was very good — Sunday was even busier than Saturday, although there was a steady flow of visitors on Saturday."

Graham Vanassche, of the Leslie’s Group — which has Hale Common Suzuki, Northwood Honda, Northwood Mazda and Somerton Kia — was very upbeat about the event.

He said: "We have got lots of leads to follow up, which is a good sign for the next few months and I think the interest shown in our vehicles is great news, considering the current economy."

Paul Hunt, of Harwoods Renault, reported visitors had been particularly interested in the most striking models, such as the new Renault Wind and the gorgeous Megane Cabriolet.

Dave Death Motorcycles was also exhibiting at the event for the first time in recent years and had a display of scooters, plus an eye-catching Triumph motorbike.

Kev Rann, of Dave Death’s, said: "The show was definitely worth doing — we had lots of visitors to our stand and we have several leads to follow up."
