Get set for a classic treat

Friday, January 27, 2012 - 11:33

SPORTS car lovers are in for a treat at this year’s International Classic Car Extravaganza, with some fabulous old MGs already promised.
The big event will take place on Saturday and Sunday, September 15 and 16, at Newport and Ryde.
At least eight MG sports cars will be coming from the Potteries and South Cheshire branch of the MG Owners Club — the first time the club has taken part in the big IW show.
Cars coming to the show will include four RV8s — pretty amazing considering only 2,000 were built worldwide, between 1992 and 1994, so they are quite a rarity.
The Potteries MG club was started in March 1992 with just three members and now has more than 130 members, mostly in the Crewe and Potteries area but some from Chester, Macclesfield, Market Drayton, Stafford and Congleton.
"This is our first visit to the car shows on the IW and we are planning a long weekend, arriving on Friday and departing on Monday following the events," said club secretary Bob Mason.
This year’s classic car show — supported by the IW Council Wightlink, the IW County Press and Paul Jones Insurance — looks like being a bumper event, said organiser Vic Gallucci.
"The variety of vehicles will be second to none this year," he said.
Entry to the show is free but Vic hopes visitors will donate at least £1 to the charities supported — this year St Catherine’s School, Ventnor, and the Earl Mountbatten Hospice.
Anyone wanting to exhibit their car at the show must contact Vic to pre-register, tel 0208 439 7871.
