Two misleading postbox signs which caused confusion in Shenley Road were removed last week after a complaint from the leader of the town council.
Earlier this year, after a request from the council, Royal Mail moved one of the two postboxes outside the old post office building to the front of the new post office.
However, until Thursday last week, both of the boxes carried out-of-date signs, so one was labelled 'All mail except locals' and the other was marked 'Local mail only'.
The town council was concerned because, although any mail can be posted in either of the boxes, people were turning away as the signs suggested otherwise.
Leader Eileen Stanley, who has been asking Royal Mail to remove the signs for several months, decided to write to its chairman two weeks ago to demand action.
"I am really pleased they have finally done it because people were stopping me and asking me where they could post their letters," she said.
"The information on the signs has been incorrect for years because all the mail is collected together and taken to Watford to be sorted."
