Nissan celebrates record for UK cars

Staddlestones Nissan, Ryde, is celebrating a record-breaking 2011 for Nissan.

STADDLESTONES Nissan has started the new year on a high, with the announcement of Nissan’s record-breaking production success in 2011.

The UK’s largest car maker, which last year celebrated the 25th anniversary of its Sunderland Plant, saw the manufacturer enjoy its most successful year to date, producing a grand total of 480,485 vehicles in 12 months — shadowing the previous year’s total of 423,262 vehicles.

Demand for the class-leading Nissan Qashqai and Nissan Juke crossover models, both available at the Staddlestones Nissan, meant the plant exceeded that previous record on November 16. November itself was a record month for the plant with 46,606 vehicles made — the highest monthly total in the plant’s history.

The new record reflects the first full calendar year in which there has been 24-hour production of the Qashqai and Qashqai+2 and was also the first full year of Juke production, which included the addition of a 4x4 Juke and the limited edition Juke Kuro. In addition, the plant continued to produce significant numbers of the ever popular Nissan Note.

The year ahead promises to be equally as exciting, with the Sunderland Plant set to launch Nissan’s first lithium-ion battery production facility outside Japan and preparing for the start of UK production of the Leaf, Nissan’s award-winning 100 per cent electric vehicle.

Chris Perkis, director at Staddlestones Nissan, said: "Many of our customers are pleasantly surprised when they realise their new car was built in the UK. The fact of the matter is that Nissan’s Sunderland plant is the biggest car manufacturing plant in the country, producing one in three of all UK cars.

"The plant’s 25th anniversary year will certainly go down in UK car production history and the staff at Staddlestones Nissan are very pleased to share in the success.

"We look forward to a prosperous 2012 and to inviting customers to come and experience for themselves the wide range of models available from the UK’s record-breaking car manufacturer."
