MUSICCLASSICAL music fans were treated to a concert by one of the country’s top youth orchestras.
Led by conductor Andrew Morley, the 60-strong Junior Trinity Symphony Orchestra performed at St Catherine’s Church, Ventnor, and All Saints’ Church, Ryde, last Tuesday and Wednesday.
Making its first visit to the Island, the orchestra played pieces by Shostakovich, Rachmaninov, Mozart and Vivaldi.
Proceeds from the concerts will go to the Earl Mountbatten Hospice and Ryde Rotary Club.
Based at the Trinity College of Music, in Greenwich, London, the orchestra is a Saturday school for talented musicians aged between nine and 19. There is also a programme for younger students, aged between three and 11.
The orchestra performs regularly at some of the capital’s most prestigious concert venues, including Cadogan Hall, Blackheath Concert Halls and St John’s, Waterloo, and has toured across Europe.
