FA Trophy fourth round: Barnet 0 Scarborough 0

Mark Gower missed an injury-time penalty at Underhill on Saturday and Barnet will have to make the long trip to Scarborough for a replay on Tuesday.

The late drama came when Bees striker Neil Midgley was brought down by Scarborough defender Paul Shepherd, who was sent off for a professional foul. Gower blasted his spot kick well wide.

Shepherd was the second Scarborough player to be red-carded.

Scarborough player coach Mark Patterson was sent off in the 43rd minute for a dangerous late challenge on Gower.

And Scarborough manager Russell Slade was dismissed from the dugout by the referee, who booked seven players - Barnet's Craig Pope, Mark Gower, John Doolan, Frazer Toms and Greg Heald and Scarborough's Jason Blunt and Darryl Stamp.

Barnet were without three suspended players, Lee Gledhill, Lee Flynn and Stuart Niven, and Mark Arber missed the match with a stomach upset. However, that does not excuse the Bees' inability to overcome opponents who had only ten men for the entire second half.

The Bees managed few noteworthy scoring attempts. Gower looked set to score in the 12th minute when he was fouled just outside the penalty area by Blunt, who was booked. Gower also received a yellow card for retaliation.
