MUSIC THE final line-up for Newport Jazz Weekend has been announced this week, with the cream of Britain’s jazz musicians set to take part.
Guitarist Martin Taylor, saxophone band Sax Appeal and pianist David Newton are a few of the stars who will appear at the weekend, which takes place at venues across Newport between July 19 and July 21.
The event kicks off on Friday, July 19, at Quay Arts at a concert dubbed 'The best of British Jazz Legends’, featuring pianist Keith Ingham with Digby Fairweather on cornet, Roy Williams on trombone and Dave Shepherd on clarinet.
And on Sunday, July 21, the event reaches its climax at The Riverside Centre, when saxophonist Alan Barnes will be joined by guitarist Martin Taylor for what promises to be a sell-out event.

Friday, July 19: The Best of British Jazz Legends, Quay Arts, 5.15pm to 7pm; Zoe Francis (vocals), Alan Barnes and David Newton, Apollo Theatre, 8.30pm to 10.15pm.
Saturday, July 20: Tribute to George Shearing, Apollo Theatre, Newport, 1.30pm to 3.15pm; Keith Ingham Trio, Quay Arts, 3.45pm to 5pm; Jim Mullen (guitar), Gary Plumley (tenor sax), Craig Milverton (organ) and Matt Home (drums), Apollo Theatre, 5.30pm to 7pm; and Alan Barnes (tenor sax), Bruce Adams (trumpet), David Newton (piano), Sandy Suchodolski (bass), and Nick Millward (drums), Newport Minster 8.15 to 10pm.
Sunday, July 21: Georgia Mancio (vocals), Nigel Price (guitar) and Julie Walkington (bass), Apollo Theatre, 1.45 to 3.30pm; Sax Appeal, Riverside Centre, 4pm to 5.45pm; The Unity Stompers with Amy Roberts, Newport Minster, 6.16pm to 7.45pm; and Alan Barnes (saxes) and Martin Taylor (guitar), Riverside, 9pm to 10.45pm.
