Bonjour to choir

Medina High Community Choir.

MUSICA BUSY concert season for Medina High Community Choir culminated in a highly successful week-long tour of Brittany in France at the beginning of this month.

The choir staged four concerts at major venues and countless, less formal appearances in market squares and at local landmarks throughout south-west Brittany between August 1 and 8.

The choir performed gospel concerts at the cathedrals of Josselin and and Quimper, the amphitheatre in Concarneau and the great churches of Pont L’Abbe and Ploerdut, the oldest remaining Romanesque church in France.

French audiences particularly appreciated the fact that different members of the choir introduced each song in French and that translations were given when appropriate by choir director, Hannah Brear, who also works as a French teacher at Medina High School.

The choir’s final concert was a far cry from the formality of the beautiful cathedrals it had previously had the honour of singing in. For the choir’s performance they did a re-run of the Abba and Beatles concert performed at Medina Theatre in the summer of 2009.

They performed the show at a packed cabaret venue in front of an audience of hundreds of English, French and German holidaymakers.

Choir member Pam Parish said: "I can’t believe the fun we had on tour. We sang in all sorts of places from markets to a mini-amphitheatre, a quayside to quaint churches, cliffs to cathedrals and castles to the coach."

She added: "The whole tour was a fantastic experience, well organised and great fun. I can’t wait for the next one."
