ONE of London’s most successful folk nights is to hit the Island this month.
The Lantern Society has attracted the likes of Mercury nominee Tom McCrae and indie-pop folk act The Magic Numbers. The team behind the society will play Freshwater Memorial Hall on February 21.
As well as featuring young husband-and-wife team Trevor Moss and Hannah-Lou, the couple behind the Farringdon Folk Club, there will be performances from some of London’s most respected folk musicians, joined by local talent.
Islanders Becky Entwhistle and Michael Champion will share the stage with Benjamin Folke Thomas, Pepe Belemonte and Jack Day.
"We were getting a bit fed up with horrible venues and sweaty basements, we wanted to get away from playing the same old places so we looked for nice venues around the country," said Hannah-Lou.
The tour kicks off at Quorn Village Hall, Loughborough, and ends in Freshwater, with the musicians playing a host of village halls along the way.
"Lantern Society is based in a lovely old pub and we want to create a nice atmosphere in the places on tour. We will set it up more like a cabaret-type night," said Hannah-Lou.
