CHARLTON 1 - WOLVES 1.

FAC CUP 4TH ROUND.

IF CHARLTON are to progress any further in this year's FA Cup competition they will have to win at Wolves for the first time in 45 years.

Charlton earned a replay at Molineux thanks to a second half equaliser from Keith Jones in an evenly-matched game at The Valley on Saturday.

The visitors could well have gone ahead in the second minute when Don Goodman was allowed too much room on the right. Only the intervention of Steve Brown deprived Steve Sedgely of a great chance.

Mike Stowell in the Wolves goal did not have a shot to save until a curling effort which lacked any real venom from John Robinson on 26 minutes. Seconds later Mike Salmon hesitated when coming out to deal with Dougie Freedman and a dangerous far-post ball was turned behind thanks to Richard Rufus.

The second half began with a Mark Kinsella corner which dipped unexpectedly. It was met by a Phil Chapple, who charged in at the near post but the defender's effort flew wide.

Wolves immediately retaliated, scoring from their own corner at the other end. Mixu Paatelainen changed the direction of the delivery with a flick-on which Richards powered home at the far post.

Charlton's cause was not helped when in-form player John Robinson was forced to withdraw on 63 minutes after receiving treatment at half time.

Seconds later though, the Addicks were level. Newton hared past Steve Frogatt and delivered a low cross which Mark Bright returned across the box with a diving header.

Keith Curle got a touch but the ball only found its way to Keith Jones who dispatched it into the bottom-lefthand corner.

Charlton were now on top and Kinsella gave Stowell plenty to think about with a powerful, curling shot which the keeper juggled before securing, under pressure from Bright.

Brown was then booked for a trip on Goodman but Steve Sedgely drove the dangerous free-kick over the bar.

In the closing seconds Chapple had a good header cleared off the line by Freedman at the far post but the match was to end with honours even.
