Festival puts the fun into music making

MUSIC AN INCREASINGLY popular annual event, designed to celebrate and enjoy the pleasure of performing music and singing in a non-competitive environment, returns next week.

The Ventnor Music For Fun Festival will be hosted by St Catherine’s Church over two days, starting with classes on Thursday morning and concluding with a gala concert next Friday, March 1.

The packed programme of classes is designed to appeal to all music makers, from primary school ensembles and community choirs to mature beginners, composers and experienced performers, whatever their age.

Experienced show judge Suzanne Higgins will be adjudicating the festival — providing participants with constructive advice and feedback on their performances.

Mrs Higgins will also host a vocal workshop, which has proved to be a popular, regular feature in recent festivals. The workshop on Thursday is free to children and will begin at 8pm.

This year, the festival will be free for visitors and is sponsored by a number of organisations and companies, including Ventnor Rotary Club and the Ventnor Lions.

Next Friday’s gala concert will start at 6.30pm.
