MUSICNEWport rock band Sky Sphere, winner of this year’s Battle of the Bands, wowed the crowds at Coburg’s Bar, Ryde, last Saturday, delivering an impressive set of blues and indie rock in support of heroes Toploader.

Alex Vanblaere (vocals and bass guitar), 19, Dom Corcoran (lead guitar and backing vocals), 19, and Andy Barker (drums), 20, delivered their set list of original songs, including A Rioter’s Bliss, Smoke and Let It Go, to a receptive crowd.

The band formed only three months ago at Platform One but has already secured another top gig at Bestial 2012.

Also in support of Toploader were Island band The Operators, supporting their upcoming album Old School House — Step Two.

Drummer Ben Athey said: "We’ve been playing back on the Island since 2008 and it’s great to play with these sorts of bands."
