Orient may have ended their season on a high by denying Torquay United an automatic promotion place, but they failed to live up to their pre-season promise.

Speaking on the Os Clubcall chairman Barry Hearn spoke of the clubs 11th place finish which again leaves them facing a battle next season to get out of division three.

Without the fiasco of the three points wed just be one point off the playoffs, said Hearn.

And although you can talk about games like Rotherham and Shrewsbury where we should have won, its all swings and roundabouts because theres been times at Barnet and Hartlepool where weve got late goals ourselves.

I think we should resign ourselves to the fact that over the whole season we just havent been quite good enough, admitted the Os supremo.

But Hearn insists that the signs are good for the future. We are very close to having a good side and I think we need another year in this division, said Hearn.

Its important that we try and build and make decent acquisitions as I dont want the club to go up to the higher division just to get slaughtered every week.

Hearn confirmed that the club is looking to bring in another two or three signings, in addition to recent Belgian import Wim Van De Welden. Weve brought him in through the Bosman ruling and hes our first major signing of the summer.

First team coach Paul Clark confirmed: The nucleus of the squad is there for next season. There was a big turnover last year so its time the team settled down.

Former skipper Dominic Naylor has joined Stevenage Borough after failing to agree new terms.
