AWARD-winning jazz legend Courtney Pine is heading for the IW, to headline an exciting new jazz event.
Jazz on the Meadow, a day-long event, featuring top jazz performers, will be held at Ventnor Botanic Garden on Saturday, May 22.
A spokesman for Blunt Events, the Island-based promoter organising the event, said: "We are so proud and excited to be bringing an artist of Courtney Pine’s calibre to the IW and we’re really looking forward to announcing the rest of our line up for Jazz on the Meadow.
"It looks sure to be an exceptional day of brilliant live music in a superb location."
Courtney Pine, a huge figure in the jazz world, has won awards including best jazz act at the Urban Music Awards in 2007, best live band at the BBC Jazz Awards in 2002 and best jazz act at the MOBOs in 1997.
He was also awarded a CBE for services to music in the Queen’s 2009 New Year’s Honours list.
His debut album, Journey to the Urge Within, was the first serious jazz album to make the UK top 40.
His most recent album, Transition in Tradition — his 14th to date — has been well-received by critics and the public.
Famed for his varied influences and fluid playing style, he appeals to both hardcore jazz fans and wider audiences.
Further acts for Jazz on the Meadow are due to be announced shortly, as are VIP ticket details.
