Loud acclaim for guitar whisperer
Classical guitarist Richard Durrant, already looking forward to his next visit to the IW.
MUSICCLASSICAL guitarist Richard Durrant performed his acclaimed The Guitar Whisperer show at  Arreton Barns last week.
More than 400 guests, who had claimed their free tickets online, enjoyed the two-hour performance.
From the moment Richard started the concert, walking among the audience playing Bach on a tenor banjo in the style of a wandering minstrel, he challenged the traditional perceptions of what is understood by 'a guitar recital’.
After switching to a humble ukulele, Richard took all-present on a musical world tour.
The second half of the show incorporated a particularly individual take on Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells as well as a complete performance of Electric Counterpoint, by the Pulitzer prizewinning composer Steve Reich, backed by specially created animations projected onto three separate screens.
Richard, who was enjoying his first visit to the IW, incorporated several famous classical solos, taken largely from his recent CD Recuerdos Guitar Classics.
After the gig, Richard said: "This was my first concert on the Island, and the stage setting at the Dairyman’s Daughter was truly inspiring. I am told the weather is always this good on the Island and everyone has given me such a warm welcome. I’m already looking forward to coming back."
