When North Cheam's Challenge Trophies signed up darts champion Peter Manley on a sponsorship deal the London Road firm knew they were backing a winner.

But what they couldn't have expected was seeing their company's logo plastered across television screens around the world after the 36-year-old newsagent from Malden Road reached the final of the Skol Professional World Darts Championship.

Held earlier this month at Purfleet in Essex, the final between Manley and six-time world champion Phil Taylor was televised for satellite viewers around the globe and Challenge's sales director Martin Seymour was delighted with the publicity that the darts champ's success earned the trophy specialists.

"Peter Manley wore a Challenge Trophies shirt sporting the company's new logo," he said. "We were delighted with the exposure from the event which was televised on Sky throughout the world, and photographed by a battery of press people."

The North Cheam's darts champ reached the tournament's final after a memorable semi-final with Shayne Burgess but eventually lost 6-2 in the final to the now seven-time world champion, Phil Taylor.
