Patti Smith is coming to the Island.
MUSIC
IN a huge coup for the Island, iconic American musician, poet and artist Patti Smith is to perform here and exhibit her photographs in West Wight.
Arranged jointly by the Farringford Hotel, Freshwater, the Julia Margaret Cameron Trust and music promoters Vaguely Sunny, Patti Smith’s visit will be on Thursday, June 11, when she will perform a solo show of poetry and music at the Farringford Hotel.
The date was chosen by Patti, as it is the date of pioneering Victorian photographer Julia Margaret Cameron’s birthday.
The day before, an exhibition of her photographs will open at Dimbola Lodge, Freshwater, which is particularly apt as Patti’s work was influenced by Julia Margaret Cameron, whose home it was.
Patti will be performing at Farringford in Alfred Lord Tennyson’s bi-centennial year.
Patti first came to prominence in the mid-sevenies with the release of her debut album, Horses.
Tickets for the Farringford concert go on sale tomorrow (Saturday) and bookings can be made by calling Farringford on 752500.
Tickets are also available from Waterstones, Newport, but these must be collected and paid for by visiting the shop.
Numbers are restricted to 200.
