MUSIC THE IW Symphony Orchestra will begin a series of concerts at the Medina Theatre, Newport next month.

The first concert is on Saturday, November 17, and features the popular overture to The Merry Wives of Windsor, by Otto Nicolai.

It will be followed by the Piano Concerto by Schumann, which will be performed by soloist Christopher Guild, who will be making a welcome return to the Island.

The second concert, on January 26, will feature another popular soloist, violinist Alexander Sitkovetsky, who will perform the Violin Concerto No 2, by Shostakovitch.

The evening will also feature the epic 5th Symphony, by Sibelius.

There are five concerts in the series, with other highlights including Elgar’s Sea Pictures and Invitation to Dance, by Weber.
