NEW IMAGE OF MISSING DAMIEN

Monday, July 14, 2003 - 12:06

A NEW age-enhanced image has been created of missing Damien Nettles, who disappeared from Cowes seven years ago aged 16.
Damien would now be 23 and the National Missing Persons Helpline charity has created the picture as part of the search.
Auriole Prince, head of identification and reconstruction at the charity, produced the image.
She said: "We hope this new image will bring about some vital new information as to Damien's whereabouts. Because Damien was 16 when he went missing, his underlying bone structure would have almost completely grown and he therefore would not need to be age progressed as such.
"However, boys tend to carry on growing into their early 20s, developing stronger jaw lines and brows. The musculature of the neck also increases substantially. I have looked at pictures of his mum, dad and brother to judge how he may have aged and have created an enhanced image in order to try to generate new information on the case.
"Ultimately, Damien won't look like a different person, just older and more masculine."
Damien's family moved to America from their Gurnard home when his father, Ed, was offered work in Dallas.
Speaking from their home, his mother, Valerie, said: "The family wish to thank the NMPH for their continued efforts in the search for Damien and the incredible age-enhanced picture.
"It is our hope that someone, somewhere, may recognise this likeness or that it may prompt someone who has knowledge about the circumstances surrounding Damien's disappearance to come forward.
"All it takes is one piece of credible information, which could end this nightmare we live in. We are begging anyone who may be able to help come forward, anonymously if necessary, just give us something to go on.
"There is still a glimmer of hope that Damien is still out there and well. However, after almost seven years with nothing to go on, we must face the awful possibility that something happened to our son, which has prevented him ever making contact with us and the possibility he suffered at the hands of unscrupulous individuals.
"The agony of not knowing is torture and images of the most despicable kind drift into our thoughts and plague our sleep. We need Damien back, or at least to know and face the reality of what has happened so we can move on.
"We are aware that Hampshire Police are still following up any leads that come their way and are pleased they are able to continue their investigations. Again, we are pleading with anyone who could assist us in resolving this case to please come forward."
Anyone with information about Damien Nettles can call the National Missing Persons Helpline in total confidence on freefone 0500 700 700. The calls cannot be traced.
Alternatively, call Hampshire Police on 0845 045 4545.
