PRIME seafront land at Sandown, including most of its boating lake, sold in auction for £180,000.

The site, extending to more than 13 acres between Browns golf course and the boating lake, at Culver Parade, was among 21 lots being sold by Clive Emson, the regional land and property auctioneers.

Auctioneer Rob Marchant said: "We had the one bidder, who has bought a prime chunk of real estate for less than the price of a detached family house."

The land has consent for a leisure complex, with restaurant, a separate drive-through building and two commercial buildings.

It was sold to Coppins Bridge multiplex developers, Buchanan Land Group, in 1998, by the IW Council but remained undeveloped.

Mr Marchant added: "We are not privy to plans, if any, the new owner has for this excellent freehold site."
