VK Barnet Volleyball Club cruised through to the final of the Herts Cup on Wednesday with a 3-1 win over Berkhamsted Bulldogs.

The Barnet side, who haven't lost since November 1998 took their unbeaten run to 20 as they rolled over the opposition in just over an hour.

Coach Antony Brian said: 'There is an overwhelming feeling about the team that we will always win, no matter who we're playing. Even though we lost a set to Berkhamsted, we never had any doubts that we would win.'

VK, with the Herts League title already under their belt, face Luton Lions in the final on Sunday, May 21, hoping to repeat last season's double.

With Berkhamsted fielding a weak but competent side, the match turned out to be a scrappy affair.

VK started brightly and had soon forged a 12-point lead.

Setter Drew Newman toyed with the Bulldog blockers, allowing Raul Sanchez and Sean Poole to put away their attacks.

Tough serving by Jon Higgins piled on the pressure and Berkhamstead soon folded, 25-10.

Coach Brian made a string of substitutes in the second, but the players failed to gel, and unforced errors allowed the opposition to take the set 25-22.

VK reverted back to their first six, and soon regained the upper hand. Solid passing by Jay Iysoyler, allowed Danny Ho to set up the Barnet attacks.

Berkhamsted defended well, recycling the ball, but their hitters were snuffed out by some great blocking from Martin Elcock and Melvin Tagg.

Barnet were caught on the hop by some short tips from the Bulldog setter, but further service pressure and powerful hitting pushed VK home to record a 25-10, 22-25, 25-17, 25-12 win.
