WITH an estimated 420 candidates and 339 seats, the Isle of Wight Council faces its most complex elections to date in May.
As well as the Isle of Wight Council elections on Thursday, May 2, it will be the first time all 33 town and parish councils will have their elections on the same date.
This month’s full council meeting was told because of the complexity, the count would be held on the following day.

The Island council are usually the last to declare election results. We're not like the mainland eh? They count faster over there. The council don't ever seem capable of running anything efficiently - certainly not schools, children's services, roads blah blah.

For Keith Barking Madd and others heres the article:With less than a week to go until the launch of the Coalition’s flagship energy efficiency project, just five households have signed up for the Green Deal.By Louise Gray, Environment Correspondent6:01PM GMT 22 Jan 2013The new programme enables home owners to take out a loan up to £10,000 to make their house more energy-efficient, which they then pay back gradually through the savings on their fuel bills. It will be launched to great fanfare on Monday, when households can start going to their local DIY store, council or energy provider to take out a loan.Despite months to prepare, 600 trained builders on standby and the involvement of 40 organisations, including household names like B&Q and British Gas, it looks like few people are interested – nevermind queuing up to be the first in line for a loan. The Federation of Master Builders, the UK’s biggest building trade body, said only one firm from its 10,000-st

If only we had REAL Conservative Councillors here like they have on Hampshire County Council, whose ban on large wind turbines on Hampshire County Council owned land is a vote winner.Instead, we have Cameronesque caricatures who are running scared from the "cowboy" Lib Dumbs and Indies, as Darren calls them and align themselves to declarations of support for Egoisland and all things "green".Unsurprisingly, Mr. Marriott has not published a story on todays GRAND LAUNCH of the Green Deal or another eulogy about his mate, rayban.Maybe that is because DECC figures released 5 days ago showed that just 5 people nationally had applied for the Green Deal and only 1 installer had registered out of a total of 10,000 after 6 months publicity. Don't believe me? Google Louise Gray, the most GREEN journo of all time.Yet if you read Greens blurb the next day, "Enquires on r site about Green Deal has been so great its taken r server down".Yeah right Dave! that's a good idea Mrs James..if only in our dreams haha..and I think that instead of being armchair warriors, it would be great to see some of the "moaners" get off their butts and maybe run as a Councillor themselves? They seem to know everything about everything, I say it's time to put these brave words into action, I'm sure their communities will be behind them.

Why cant we get rid of the politics all together and get a Business Group to run the council, as a profit making company, run by , say 6 people (so illness & holidays are covered) if they dont make a profit and do a good job, we the people, kick them out and hire a new Business to run it... No High Priced Executives, or wanabes, just a few fully qualified experienced, business people, to make a profit to pay their own wages and those of the staff... Maybe someone like Richard Branson...Simples ;)
