A CROWD of 1,815, the highest in the FA Umbro Trophy on Saturday, saw Welling United go out of the competition 4-2 at struggling Conference side Woking, writes Grahm Bunce.
But if early lessons in the match had been learned, Wings could well have been earned at least a replay.
Woking took the lead on 20 minutes when Barry Moore took advantage of Wings' failure to clear from their box.
Welling hauled themselves back into the tie after 61 minut when a good cross from Russell Edwards found Gary Abbott in space to head home.
Scott Smith restored Woking's lead five minutes later and Eddie Saunders soon made it
3-1. And with Welling's defence awash, Woking sealed the tie after 73 minutes when Roscoe D'Sane side-footed into the top corner of Glen Knights' net.
Dean Standen chased a lost cause, challenged the keeper and got his head to the ball as it rolled in gently to make it 4-2.
Wings, who hosted Moor Green last night as we went to press, travel to Hednesford Town in the league on Saturday.
