46 year old killed in Whippingham Road crash

POLICE investigating last night's fatal collision on Whippingham Road have confirmed that a 46-year-old man from East Cowes died at the scene.

They have appealed for witnesses after a Vauxhall Corsa, being driven by the man, collided with a Land Rover, being driven by a 44-year-old man, collided near the junction with Alverstone Road at around 8pm.

Police initially said the Land Rover driver was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital, however they said today (Wednesday) that he was actually taken to St Mary's Hospital, Isle of Wight, after being assessed at the scene.

He suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries, and remains in hospital.

Police have appealed for witnesses who saw the collision or either vehicle prior to the incident to come forward.
