6,000 enjoy garden show

WOLVERTON Manor Garden Fair at Shorwell attracted an estimated 6,000 people at the weekend.

The successful show, supported by the County Press and Red Funnel Ferries, has raised thousands for Island charity Age Concern Isle of Wight, but is not expected to have beaten the record of £24,000 set last year.

Organisers said the event, which blends entertainment — including that with a medieval flavour — crafts, country pursuits and all things gardening, triumphed despite the difficult economic climate.

Seeds of the fair were sown as long ago as 1997, growing into the event of today staged in the grounds of the historic house.
