A PETITION with nearly 6,000 signatures to save Shanklin Fire Station was presented to Isle of Wight Cllr Barry Abraham.
Residents turned out in force to urge the council to keep it open.
They are worried about the effect the closure could have on homes and businesses in the Shanklin Fire Station catchment area, which stretches from Lake to Luccombe and to Godshill.
