THE number of EU workers joining the Isle of Wight NHS has fallen since Brexit, figures have revealed.
Data shows the number of staff joining from EU countries dropped from 18 in 2015-16 to just five in 2016-17, after the referendum result.
However, the number of EU nationals leaving the Isle of Wight NHS Trust since the referendum has fallen over the same period.
In 2015/16, the number of EU workers leaving the trust stood at 15, whereas just six left between 2016/17, according to the data, which was compiled by the BBC and the Local News partnership.
The research appears to disprove the idea the proportion of EU staff leaving the trust is growing since the Brexit vote in June 2016.
However, the data reveals the proportion of EU staff joining the trust in the first six months of 2017 is less than in 2015. Nationally, it found the proportion of EU staff joining the NHS had fallen from 15,247 in 2014/15 to 6,925 this year.
The data also shows EU nationals make up a larger share of staff leaving NHS jobs after the referendum than they did before it, although the overall total of leavers is lower, with 5,482 in 2016/17 compared to 7,535 in 2014/15.
