THE Bus Shelter Isle of Wight is hoping to re-launch next month, having been closed since June.
The charity opened in November 2016 to tackle homelessness and has successfully helped to re-house 22 of its guests full-time and continues to provide support once they move into accommodation.
Founder Kev Newton has stepped back from the project, which is now being run by Karl Print, of Porchfield, who previously was responsible for co-ordinating the night portering operation at St Mary's Hospital.
He said: "We were previously set up at Seaclose, Newport, and had to leave the site because of the IW Festival but that was always a temporary home.
"We have had further positive talks, which we hope will mean we can re-open shortly, although we still don't know where.
"Once we have a plot of land, we have a number of professional companies who are prepared to help us set up the site to relieve any costs. We have learned a lot over the past couple of years and we have had to review the service we aim to provide but, essentially, our goals are the same but with minor operational changes.
"Our project is to help and support homeless individuals and end their cycle of homelessness. However, we also recognise some are not ready to engage with services like ours.
"I would like to see a night shelter established to provide safety and shelter for those who are not ready to engage fully with services such as ours.
"We are working closely with all our partners within our sector and hope to be back in service shortly, continuing the work we have started. We hope to hear some good news soon."
