STARS from the 1930s and 1940s came to life in a Christmas variety show for St Paul's Cray residents.

Singers took the guises of Vera Lynne, Max Miller and special agent Dick Barton to entertain residents at the Outreach Centre, in Cotmandene Crescent, St Paul's Cray.

One shopfront along Cotmandene Crescent was converted by kids into a Santa's grotto, while another was made into a stable for a nativity procession involving a real donkey.

Bromley Mayor Councillor John Holbrook joined more than 200 people for the festivities, which included mulled wine, mince pies and Christmas carols. Organisers plan to make the celebrations an annual event.
