UPDATED 11.17am

ISLE of Wight police have issued crime prevention advice following a spate of burglaries across the Island.

Between October 29 and November 14, a number of items were stolen from properties, including an electric bike worth £2,500 from Bembridge, a mobile phone and clothing from Lake, and another mobile phone from Sandown.

A 16-year-old boy from Sandown was arrested this morning (Monday) in relation to the incidents and remains in custody.

Police said the doors to the properties may not have been secure and officers are encouraging residents to lock all windows and doors at night, and when they leave their properties.

There have also been reports of people trying car door handles in a bid to break into the vehicles. Police have reminded people to lock their cars and hide valuables.
