A PROJECT to repaint the giant Union flag doors at Venture Quays today (Friday) welcomed a team of painters who helped on the original job.
Four painters from the 1977 team that created the flag for the Queen's silver jubilee returned to the East Cowes works to lend a hand on the Artemis organised diamond jubilee repainting effort.
The group, Pete Lanning, Ray Gustar, Roy Wickens and Brian Bray, were the latest in a series of helpers which last week included Royal equestrian and Olympian Zara Phillips.
Zara said: "It is great to come down and be part of the repainting of this huge flag in a year where there is so much to celebrate.
"With the Jubilee celebrations and the Olympics about to start it is a fantastic year to be British and I am very proud to be part of it."
