A once-in-a-lifetime experience

Louise Gray performed in a ‘street party’ for the closing ceremony.

THE spectacular Olympic closing ceremony featuring the best of British fashion and music was witnessed first hand by an Isle of Wight woman who took part as one of the dancers.

Louise Gray, of Briddlesford Road, Wootton, is a member of the Isle of Wight Oyster Girls and has been rehearsing her big moment since May in London, with other volunteers who danced at the closing ceremony.

She had to travel to London to rehearse for the show at evenings and weekends so she could take part in a 'street party’ on one of the trucks that paraded around the main Olympic stadium.

Louise, a member of the island’s NHS staff, said: "It was quite a bit of money to travel up there but it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. You will never get that experience again.

"I had applied for tickets and could not get any so I thought it was the least I could do to be a part of it."

She added: "You were supposed to leave the stadium after the performance but, luckily, a few of us sneaked back and got some seats and I managed to watch the whole thing. It was absolutely fantastic."
