HIGHWAYS staff who rescued a boy stuck in a cannon have been praised as going beyond the call of duty.
Island Roads staff Derek Bean and Rob Read, who dislodged the boy from the Calbourne Mill cannon earlier this month, have been presented with a certificate and £20 gift voucher by the company.
Other staff were similarly rewarded for administering first aid to a child injured in a traffic accident in Shanklin and helping a woman who fell and hurt her leg at Compton Bay.
Island Roads service director Paul Herbert said: "I am pleased our staff were on hand to offer vital assistance to people in need. I know their efforts were very much appreciated by those they helped."
