Action on Winter Gardens project

Ventnor Winter Gardens on the Isle of Wight.

TENDERS for the work to transform Ventnor’s disused and dilapidated Winter Gardens have been invited.

Monday’s town council meeting was told that gaining planning permission and drawing up detailed specifications for the Hambrough Group’s scheme had taken longer than expected but construction firms were now being asked to tender for the project.

Councillors were told the Hambrough’s Michelin-starred chef Robert Thompson remained committed to the hotel, restaurant and auditorium development.

Isle of Wight Council member Cllr Chris Welsford said terms of the lease from the Isle of Wight Council said if the first phase of development — the auditorium — was not completed and opened by July 2014, the whole building could be forfeited to the Isle of Wight Council.
