Action on Winter Gardens project

Ventnor Winter Gardens on the Isle of Wight.

TENDERS for the work to transform Ventnor’s disused and dilapidated Winter Gardens have been invited.

Monday’s town council meeting was told that gaining planning permission and drawing up detailed specifications for the Hambrough Group’s scheme had taken longer than expected but construction firms were now being asked to tender for the project.

Councillors were told the Hambrough’s Michelin-starred chef Robert Thompson remained committed to the hotel, restaurant and auditorium development.

Isle of Wight Council member Cllr Chris Welsford said terms of the lease from the Isle of Wight Council said if the first phase of development — the auditorium — was not completed and opened by July 2014, the whole building could be forfeited to the Isle of Wight Council.

It was popular years ago, when overners took their holidays on The Island. I remember seeing The Who there and queuing up to get in the 69 club.

It's hard to see where any real revenue can come from now.

Steve still waiting ............

"""Steve you will of course post a resume ......?"""

You will oblige on due course I hope, just to prove your point to those of us outside Ventnor, but who are still very supportive of the entertainment and community elements of any Isle of Wight town just why the same supportive element of 'The Friends of Shanklin Theatre' won't work here in Ventnor at The Winter Gardens.

Mike,

In the immortal words of Francis Urquhart in The House of Cards, "you may say that, but I couldn't possibly comment"

Don't want to antagonise the Kremlin even further.
